Planning the Philadelphia Protest Meeting

The war on the Catholic Church in Mexico continued into the 1930’s. In response, the American Catholic Historical Society of Philadelphia invited all the Catholic societies of Philadelphia to help arrange a protest meeting in order to raise public awareness of the persecution of the Church in Mexico.

Most Rev. Gerald O’Hara, auxiliary bishop of Philadelphia and president of the American Catholic Historical Society, was named general chairman and committees were formed to plan and implement the proposed gathering.
